Terms of Use for Keep the Beat Materials

General Terms: The text of and information contained in materials published by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) are in the public domain. No further permission is required to reproduce or reprint the text in whole or in part. This applies to print publications, graphics, and animations in the NHLBI Diseases and Conditions Index as well as documents and content from the NHLBI Web site. Organizations may add their own logo or name. The NHLBI asks only that no changes be made to the content of the material, and that the material as well any NHLBI Internet links not be used in any direct or indirect product endorsement or advertising. Photography and Visuals: Keep the Beat photography can only be used within the context of healthy eating and cooking. Separation of the photos from the issue of heart healthy cooking and eating is not permitted. After the NHLBI reviews and approves the logo use request, corporate partners must include a disclaimer statement on all pack-promotions, once on each Web page, and once on any print material featuring the Keep the Beat logo or word marks.

Trademark Terms of Use

These guidelines detail the requirements for use of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) Keep the Beat logo and word marks. Keep the Beat is a trademark of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). To maintain the integrity of the brand, the affiliated marks may only be used on materials associated with activities related to heart healthy eating and cooking. All usage requires prior approval from the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI).

Obtaining the Keep the Beat Logos

All versions and formats of the logos are available in the image library.

The five formats are:

  • EPS and TIF: For professional and high-end printing, use the high-resolution logo.
  • JPG and GIF: Low-resolution files are acceptable for electronic materials, such as Web pages, PowerPoint presentations, or Word documents.
  • PNG: low resolution files for Word or PowerPoint

Logo Usage Guidelines and Image Library

The Keep the Beat logos can be used for all banners, publications, posters, promotional materials, and giveaways.

Logo Colors

Below are the color specifications for the Keep the Beat logos and Keep the Beat color palette for printing and for Web use.

This two-color version is usually used when reproducing the logo on a light color background. When printing in spot color, use PMS Black and PMS 1797 for the red.

When printing with four-color process, use the CMYK* equivalent (C=17, M=98, Y=92, K=7) for red.

For broadcast and online applications, use the RGB** equivalent (R=193, G=39, B=45). Note: Word “the”, inside of heart, is 30% screen of PMS 1797.

The Keep the Beat color palette is as follows:

* CMYK: cyan, magenta, yellow, and key (black) is a term commonly used by designers to refer to "process color" or the "four color" process used in color printing.

** RGB: commonly used design term to describe the process in which red, green, and blue are combined to produce a broad array of colors.

Size and Placement of the Logo in Print

  • The two-color Keep the Beat and Keep the Beat Recipes logos should not be used smaller than 3” wide. The four-color Keep the Beat Recipes: Deliciously Healthy Dinners and Keep the Beat Recipes logos should not be used smaller than 5” wide.
  • The only exception to this rule is for placement on product packaging where space is limited. In these instances, minimum size will be determined on a case-by-case basis.
  • In addition, a .25" border surrounding the logo is required.

Use of the Logo on Promotional Materials

  • For promotional materials (e.g., advocacy bracelets, pens, stress balls, etc.), you may use either the full logo or just the program name (Keep the Beat). All usage must correspond to the guidelines specified in this document.
  • Minimum size will be determined on a case-by-case basis.

Use of the Logo as a Partner Group or with Other Groups’ Logos

  • All of the logos should appear of similar size and visibility, but in no case shall the Keep the Beat logo be smaller than the others nor shall it be smaller than the minimum dimensions indicated above.
